Rules for Approving and Deleting Ingredients and Recipes
How ingredients and recipes you create relate to Community Foods once they are shared. These rules are still evolving and this page will be updated as they change.
1. Your own items are fully editable
Ingredients in My Foods and recipes in My Recipes belong to you. You can edit or delete them freely at any time, as long as they have not yet been approved and moved to Community Foods.
2. Requesting to share with the community
You can request that one of your ingredients or recipes be reviewed for Community Foods. A site admin reviews the request and either approves or rejects it.
3. What happens when an ingredient or recipe is approved
When an admin approves your ingredient or recipe:
- A copy is created in Community Foods.
- Any food log entries where you logged that ingredient or recipe are automatically switched to point to the new Community Foods version.
- Any of your recipes that use that ingredient or recipe as a component are automatically switched to use the new Community Foods version.
- Your original copy is then removed from My Foods or My Recipes — it now lives permanently in Community Foods instead.
4. Community Foods items cannot be edited or deleted
Once an ingredient or recipe is part of Community Foods, it is permanent. It cannot be edited or deleted by any user. This protects everyone who has logged it, or used it in a recipe, from having their history or recipes change unexpectedly.
5. A recipe can only be shared once all of its ingredients are shared
A recipe cannot be approved for Community Foods if it still contains ingredients from My Foods, or sub-recipes from My Recipes, that have not themselves already been published to Community Foods. Publish those ingredients or sub-recipes first, then submit the recipe.
